 My company uses jabber to communicate using an old jabberd. I get
 complaints about blank messages coming from me periodically from other
 users in the office.

 This has been happening since at least 2.6.5.  I'm currently running
 pidgin on FreeBSD 8.0/amd64.

 I suspect some type of "keep alive" feature is causing this.  If another
 office user messages me and I leave the window up for some time, later in
 the day they'll get a "blank" message from me.  I have not noticed this
 problem between me and the other pidgin user in the office, only with the
 windows client they run.
