 Ok, I attached my log file from startup to an IM with misspelled words.
 But sorry actually, I just remembered that I did have an older version of
 Pidgin on the Windows 7 computer at one point, so perhaps this is just an
 upgrade issue. This log file is from the Windows XP computer btw.

 I did try completely uninstalling Pidgin and reinstalling it though, with
 no luck.
