#12243: Usability Issue: Dialog Commit Button Ordering
---------------------+------------------------------------------------------
Reporter: mstrobel | Type: defect
Status: new | Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.7.1 | Keywords: usability UI UX dialog button ordering
---------------------+------------------------------------------------------
I was just adding an account in Pidgin (via the 'Add Account' dialog) and
accidentally triggered the 'Cancel' button instead of the 'Add' button.
Being a Windows developer myself, it struck me that the ordering of these
buttons ('Cancel', 'Add') is inconsistent with the Windows UX guidelines
(and, more importantly, most other Windows applications).

I realize that Pidgin is a cross-platform application, and that these UX
conventions may differ from platform to platform. However, for Windows
applications running in a left-to-right locale, commit buttons are
generally presented with the 'affirmative' response first, followed by the
'negative' response. In this case, the ordering should be ('Add',
'Cancel'). While the GNOME Human Interaction Guidelines are less explicit
about dialog button ordering, I believe that in the case of the 'Add
Account' dialog, the ('Add', 'Cancel') ordering is also preferred.

Below are links to the relevant UX guidelines for popular platforms:
