 We aim, where possible, to fit on an 800x600 screen.  That said, we don't
 target smartphones or tablets, so we don't design with them in mind.
 Smartphone users would be far better served if some developer came along
 and wrote a new UI for libpurple, leaving Pidgin entirely untouched.  That
 way, the application can integrate with a phone properly while still
 benefitting from all the protocol support Pidgin already has.

 As I said, we don't target phones.  We're not interested in targeting
 phones, either.  As far as other clients implementing such things, that
 generally doesn't matter to us.  We've made our design decisions and we
 like them.  Anyone so inclined is, however, free to fork Pidgin and
 implement whatever they want or write plugins to do the same.
