Comment:

 I don't believe it should ever have been possible to resize the window to
 smaller than the width of the formatting toolbar when the toolbar is
 visible, GTK+ does not normally allow that sort of thing. Are you using
 the expanded formatting toolbar as opposed to the collapsed one? (A right-
 click in the formatting toolbar shows 'Group items' instead of 'Ungroup
 items'?)

 Do you remember what version of pidgin you believe let you do this? Do you
 have a screenshot of it? Can you possibly downgrade and reproduce it?
