Comment:

 The username, domain, proxy (potentially both account specific and pidgin
 global), and connect server (on the advanced page) settings are the ones
 that would need comparing.

 Additionally, getting the Help->Debug Window output from a working account
 connecting from internally and over the VPN as well as from a non-working
 account connecting from internally and over the VPN might be helpful.
