 I didn't have a devenv but I set one up.  I coded the fix you have
 recommended and although I did not do any kind of regression testing on
 pidgin, I'm able to say that the problematic scenario I described in this
 tracker no longer can be reproduced with the fix in.

 So, assuming that it does not break anything else, I'd say that the
 proposed fix is good.

 Thanks again for jumping on this so quickly.  I'm hoping we can see this
 fix rolled into an upcoming release.
