 I'm fairly certain this isn't an issue with Pidgin.  jabber.org and Google
 Talk have been having mysterious communication failure (IOW, messages
 being dropped) since jabber.org was migrated to a new server daemon.  When
 this behavior is happening, it should be possible for you to communicate
 with non-GTalk contacts or join jabber.org chatrooms, which is a fairly
 good test to confirm my theory.

 There is a fix that is going to be deployed, but it's pending some other
 changes to make it happy; for more information, I suggest you join
 jabber at conference.jabber.org, or possibly the juser at jabber.org mailing
 list.
