 It appears that Pidgin doesn't flush IM logs to the log files until the IM
 window is closed.

 This presents a serious problem when Pidgin crashes, since IM activity is
 then irretrievably lost.

 Flushing to disk every 10-30 seconds seems like an adequate solution.
