 Sorry, I've lost track of this thread, been busy.  I'll try to rollback to
 pidgin 2.6.5 or earlier using the same current cyrus-sasl on fink with
 10.6/i386, and post some logs.  I'm pretty sure one of the last recent
 versions of pidgin worked.

 (Fink users: if your package descriptions are updated via CVS, you can
 also try this by rolling back the .info and .patch files, with cvs update
 -r.)
