 I am using pidgin on linux, sorry if libnotify-popups is not an official
 plugin, but I am pretty sure it is.

 Running pidgin in GDB produces this output:

 (gdb) run
 Starting program: /usr/bin/pidgin
 [Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
 [New Thread 0x7fffe0762710 (LWP 18837)]
 Exiting because another libpurple client is already running.
 [Thread 0x7fffe0762710 (LWP 18837) exited]

 Program exited normally.
