 Hi,

 Pidgin tray icon leaves an incremental empty space in the notification
 area, each time it disappears (except when closing Pidgin).

 This happens especially when you set it to only be visible when a new
 message has arrived.
 You read the message, the icon vanishes, leaving a short empty space in
 the notification area.

 This space increases each time the icon disappears, leading to place
 consumption in the gnome panel.

  - If Pidgin or another app puts an icon in the notification area, the
 empty space remains.
  - If you close + re-launch the notification area, or if you close Pidgin,
 the empty space will be deleted, reducing the tray to its minimal
 (optimal) size.


 Disabling plugins or using an other Gnome theme doesn't help.
