New description:

 I paste https://files.one.ubuntu.com/1zCiYciXSeyHEjeXWGnO_Q, and then
 press space. Pidgin locks, and has to be killed. Running it through gdb,
 it states the stack to be empty

 The URL matters. Pasting http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/11931 or
 https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/11931 before pressing space does not
 lock pidgin. If I press a, and then space, it doesn't freeze; if I
 backspace the a away, and then press space, it freezes

 I'm running on Ubuntu, Lucid Lynx. Pidgin was updated to 2.7.0 right
 before the time of crash. I have no plugins

 I'm pasting the link into an MSN conversation
