Comment:

 Alright, first Microsoft Security Essentials popped up to tell me about
 three suddenly-detected trojans, I told it to clean it up, at which point
 Windows 7 crashed. It restarted, after running startup-repair, pidgin
 loaded just fine. Not sure what the problem was, but clearly it wasn't
 with your software.
