 Update: I got one of my friends to install Windows Live Messenger.  When
 he logged in with it, he saw that I had been blocked.  He unblocked me,
 and now apparently i can see him in Pidgin too.

 As i mentioned, i wouldn't have been blocked intentionally.  Either Pidgin
 blocked me randomly, or a setting isn't working as commonly expected.  I'm
 also not sure if this is the same problem with the other friend,
 but...heh.  It's a pain getting him just to realize i can't always reply
 to him, much less work with me to figure out how to fix it.
