 Here are the steps I take to produce a backtrace:

  1. Open a terminal
  2. > gdb pidgin 2>&1 | tee ~/pidgin-backtrace.log
  3. > handle SIGPIPE nostop noprint
  4. > run
  5. > bt full (wasn't sure when to type this as Pidgin doesn't "crash",
 but becomes unresponsive and is killed

 I am not sure how to run a backtrace with Pidgin running in debug mode.  I
 will look into it.
