 I'd like to request to have this bug reopened.

 This bug is still active (at least in IRC) as of Pidgin 2.5.5 .
 In addition to the username not being updated properly in the userlist, it
 is also not updated in the chat messages. Your own messages appearing in
 your own client are still the attached to the username as it was when you
 logged in. In other words, only the recipient sees the username change,
 not the user him/herself.

 If this ticked is a dupe plz add ticket number to your reply.
