 I had the same kind of problem yesterday. Someone added me to his list,
 but I never received the authorization message. I know that Pidgin
 received "something" because at that time all the aliases of my contacts
 changed to the full email addresses. I saw that display behaviour before,
 but the process were successful and I was able to accept the invitation.

 This morning, I notice that I received the invitation by email in my
 Hotmail inbox...
