 Squid solution works, but if you feel unconfortable downloading a .pem
 from here just go to https://omega.contacts.msn.com/ , export the
 Microsoft Internet Authority and Microsoft Secure Server Authority
 intermediate certificates and copy them to
  * C:\Program Files\Pidgin\ca-certs\
  * /usr/share/purple/ca-certs/
 depending on the OS. You can export the certificates using Firefox, for
 example, just click on the msn.com box that shows you're on a valid https
 site, click "View Certificate", select the intermediate certificates and
 export them.
 Worked for me.[[BR]]
