Comment(by jamokoo):

 something went wrong does not help determining whats wrong. i myself
 noticed that 2.7.5 is the latest in ppa.

 i compiled from source successfully and did sudo make install. i noticed
 that multiple locations for msn did not work. cause was that sudo make
 install installs libmsn (and other libs) to /usr/local/lib/purple-2 but
 pidgin searches for the libs only from /usr/lib/purple-2 so it used the
 old libs i have from the time i installed pidgin from repository.

 fix is to copy /usr/local/lib/purple-2 to /usr/lib/purple-2 after sudo
 make install

 and i cant run "make".

 problems (Linux and Pidgin as well) and typing commands in a terminal
 window could be effective but it is not user friendly for an average human
 (no it professional or geek).
