 Beginning with ver 2.7.6, file transfers no longer function under MSN,
 either outgoing or incoming.  It is unknown if this extends to other
 protocols.

 After the transfer is invoked for outgoing transfers, the file transfer
 status window appears but no further dialogue or massage and remains
 awaiting  acceptance. For incoming files, no dialogue or message appears.

 This behavior is seen in two versions of Slackware GNU/Linux, both
 directly installed (/usr/local) and built in a package.  Anecdotal
 information from Pidgin IRC channel corroborates this behavior in both XP
 and Vista.
