#12824: Pidgin needs a Systray to start? WTF????
---------------------------------------------------+------------------------
Reporter: test | Owner: rekkanoryo
Type: defect | Status: pending
Milestone: | Component: unclassified
Version: 2.7.4 | Resolution:
Keywords: system tray buddy list window startup |
---------------------------------------------------+------------------------
Changes (by deryni):
* keywords: no system tray - no startup => system tray buddy list window
startup
* status: new => pending
Comment:
pidgin does not, in any way, need a systray to start. We do however start
with the buddy list in the state it was when pidgin was last quit. Which
means that if you quit pidgin when it is hidden to the tray, then disable
your tray and restart pidgin we will attempt to start with the buddy list
hidden to the (now non-existant) tray.
We used to work rather hard to detect that condition and force the buddy
list to display. We have recently made a switch to a GtkStatusIcon based
tray icon and seem to have lost much of that detection ability (and
possibly even all attempts at the detection) which can cause this problem
(pidgin is running but no window appears to exist). Which explains why
removing the prefs.xml file "fixes" the problem because that causes pidgin
to "forget" that it was hidden to the tray last time.
