 Yeah...  Well the easiest shortcut for pasting plain text would be to
 press the context-menu button on the keyboard (next to AltGr) and then T.
 You could use a 3rd-party keybinding program to map Ctrl+V to do that in
 conversation windows.

 The other solution is to give up using formatting altogether and get your
 friend to configure his/her IM client correctly so that all messages have
 the correct size and type of font to be legible.  If they're using Pidgin
 too, this is trivial.
