 1.  Pidgin is offline.  No contacts visible.
 2.  Restart ubuntu/log in.
 3.  Pidgin still lists itself as offline, ''but contacts and buddies are
 visible to user.''  Pidgin lists itself as offline, but in reality is
 still online.
 4.  Requires user to click "available" and then "offline" to get it to
 work properly again.
