 I believe this is restricted to MSN but I can't be 100% sure

 I've had this happen to me quite a few times over several versions of
 pidgin but never consistently until now. A contact will be listed as
 offline, and I figure they just don't log in anymore until I get an angry
 email telling me otherwise. Just clarifying that I know the contact IS
 online, but it isn't showing as such

 Now recently I've had a nice opportunity to take a real look at what's
 going on because it's been happening regularly. The only way to get the
 contact to properly show up again is to re add the contact as a new buddy,
 with all the same information as the existing contact, it pops up the text
 box where you put in a greeting "please authorize me!" by default, and the
 moment I send that off the contact will appear online again, and they will
 never receive that add message.

 Also any messages sent to them while they are listed as offline (OIM) will
 never reach them, but they get messages just fine once I re add them

 This contact will appear mysteriously offline every time pidgin closes in
 any way, I've had to re add the contact several times a day



 The snip of log I am attaching is just what is being output from the
 moment I re-add the contact mentioned above, resulting in the contact
 showing properly on the list
