 I've narrowed it down now to this...

 When I add the plug-in " Buddy Notes " it makes one of my buddies show
 offline.   When I remove it.. he appears back online.  However, I haven't
 checked to see if it's JUST that Plug-in or others. It may be a plug-in
 period.
