Comment(by elb):

 1) is totally bogus.  Servers normally ignore what you send here, anyway,
 and put your actual hostname in (if they can reverse it) or your IP (if
 not).

 2) is not.

 I will shortly commit a revision which sends '*' as the local hostname in
 all circumstances.  This is a common practice, and should not cause
 problems.  It is also far superior to a configuration option.
