 I'm still having problems (but can't open this).

 I click on the irc link (such as the one above) in firefox. Then I chose
 the program /usr/bin/pidgin as the program to run these protocols.
 When I click ok, it "opens" pidgin, but does nothing.
 This doesn't seem to be the expected response.
