 I've seen the chat-windows-never-appear problem with 2.7.11 as well as
 after upgrading to 2.9.0. It seems to primarily (or only) affect chats I
 was added to via the official client, and other users have reported that I
 appear in the room and then leave after several seconds, as if I'd closed
 the tab.
