Comment:

 This is intended behavior.  On protocols where slash-commands are "native"
 (XMPP / Google Talk is), Pidgin will refuse to send the message.

 Press Ctrl-Up to recall the message and prepend "/say " to it, e.g.

 /say /slash commands are fun
 }}}
