Comment:

 If any plugin allows relocating the status selector, it would be the
 !MyStatusBox plugin from the Purple Plugin Pack.  I don't know if it does,
 though.  My statement was an "it '''''can''''' be done in a plugin", not
 "it '''''has''''' been done in a plugin."

 As for the frames, I strongly doubt we'll ever do such a thing.  The
 status icon and the greying on idle is more than adequate status
 indication.
