 I have seen a couple of tickets regarding this issue which I can confirm
 still exists in 2.8.0.

 I will attach two prefs xml files.  The standard one is the one that
 Pidgin recreated when it discovered it was missing and the issue is gone
 now.  The other xml that has today's date has the issue in it someplace.
