 Thank you for the information, darkrain42; the installation was
 unsuccessful at my previous attempt because of a versioning issue (I had
 updated Pidgin to 2.7.9 from Debian "Sid" in the hope to resolve that
 issue, while my computer is running Debian "Squeeze".) The matching Pidgin
 and Silc symbols are installed now. I will also install symbols for the
 Libc and Glib from Debian "stable" and then try to reproduce the issue and
 post the output here when ready.
