Pidgin reports "No Windows proxy set" and can not connect, although in
Pidgin, "Proxy type" = "Use Environmental Settings" (envvar).
Some organisations (like mine) behind corporate firewalls configure proxy
settings by means of a wpad.dat script. In essence, this is a .js script
 setting proxy dynamically.
On Windows, the wpad.dat URL is stored in
 "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
 Settings\AutoConfigURL".
Independent of what browser you use, this value can also be found by GUI
using "Control Panel", "Internet Settings", "Connections", "LAN settings"
(using a non-english OS, not entirely sure on exact naming).
 Using Win7 Enterprise, win64.
