Comment:

Well I'll be damned. I was investigating this in my downtime at work. I
had noticed another pair of tickets with similar symptoms,
 [http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/13104 #13100] and
[http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/13100]. I have discovered by examining
those this is another clear case of PEBKAC. I ran strace as root to
figure it out, then accidentally ran finch as root without closing out the
elevated terminal. Surprise, surprise, it worked. So I returned to my
user account and discovered that it was my configuration, just like those
all Linux superstars in the other ticket threads. Can I ask why it caused
a crash though? I am new to debugging in Linux environments, so I am
really curious. I have attached my accounts.xml, since that is the only
thing I would have willingly modified within finch. I left finch as is,
installed no plugs in for Pidgin (installed by default with Debian GNOME
package group; I did not even execute it until debugging for this ticket).
Let me know if something else in my profile is worth checking out or
sending to you guys. I am impressed this causes a segfault.
