 I've investigated further and, when I get to the state I can't join the
 chatroom, simply right-clicking on the chatroom within my buddies list
 gives

 (09:26:22) g_log: purple_blist_node_get_string: assertion
 purple_value_get_type(value) == PURPLE_TYPE_STRING' failed

 This is just as described in Ticket #10429.  The problem usually resolves
 itself, sometimes after several hours.
