 Thanks for looking into this.  The problems I've been seeing don't seem to
 fit with it being a keepalive problem.  On several occasions, when I've
 been in the state of being unable to connect to a chat room, rebooting the
 computer, or switching to a different computer has not resolved the
 problem.  So any old tcp/ip connections would have gone.  On one occasion
 I also restarted my internet router to no avail.
