 I believe it should be possible to change the configuration of the Alt +
 1, Alt+2, etc, hotkeys for changing tabs to be mapped instead to Ctrl + 1,
 Ctrl+2, etc. This would reflect the hotkeys for other applications which
 have been around for years, such as Firefox, and new ones, such as Chrome.
 For another example, this reflects Alt+Tab for switching between
 applications and Ctrl+Tab for switching between sub-windows or tabs within
 applications.

 While this may not be the case for some Pidgin developers, for me and
 users like me, Pidgin is the only application that uses Alt instead of
 Ctrl for in-app tab switching. I don't believe there is any way for an end
 user to configure this for him/herself at present.
