 In short: The issue I am having is that Pidgin will not show its stored
 friendly name (for me) to others (who use WLM 2011) even if I log out and
 back in.

 --

 As such, it is required to login to your Windows Live Profile on the Live
 Website to change your display name using two text boxes, and it will be
 forever stored there, rather than force-updated by clients such as Pidgin
 that still rely on storing the display name locally.
