 Hmm, for me it works here between my laptop (Debian unstable, pidgin
 2.7.9) and a Nokia N900 (Maemo with power kernel, pidgin 2.7.7). But I
 also have a couple of things differently. E.g. avahi uses the global IPv6
 addresses in my case (2001:...).

 I've also changed my /etc/nsswitch.conf from "hosts: files dns" to "hosts:
 files mdns_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns", don't know if that might
 help...

 Actually, it sounds a little weird that a dns query for those IPv6
 addresses would be performed. Couldn't that step somehow be skipped?
