Comment:

 This is really not a ticket that should have been filed here.  We don't
 control what dependencies and recommendations are placed on the packages
 the Ubuntu people build.

 That said, the packages are valid dependencies, as finch can link with X
 libraries for some of its optional features and libpurple can use D-Bus.
 Surely, however, most of those packages are only recommended and can be
 avoided by the use of `apt-get --no-install-recommends install finch`.
