 Yes, the name is correct.

 A pity this turns out to be more complicated.

 Another option might be to start bid numbers with a random offset (as a
 static variable):
 On an 0x0003 error the offset gets a new random value and the error
 message tells the user to try again.

 OTOH introducing random values may make it even more difficult to find out
 what's happening.
 Moreover, there is some chance (if libpurple is involved in the bug) that
 this generates phantom entries in the whole number space, up to 0xFFFF.
