New description:
For about four years now, I've noticed XMPP file transfers generally do
not work for reasons elusive. Sometimes the sender's end will report
transfer 100%, while the recipient sees it hanging at some amount less
than that.
We are both using Pidgin 2.9.0 (libpurple 2.9.0) on Ubuntu. I am running
Maverick on amd64 hardware, he is running Natty on amd64 hardware.
As a test case, my friend and I have captured the necessary debug logs
attached showing the details of my trying to send him a file which is 72.7
KB (74442 bytes). My end reports having transferred successfully, but his
end reports only 37.8 KB (38752 bytes) and then doesn't receive any more.
His transfer window reports 21% complete, mine reports 100%. His amount
varies from time to time, but never actually reaches 100%. His window
isn't lying either, since we verified his received file size which is less
than the full size.
There are two logs attached below. One is my debug log (sender), and the
other is his (recipient).
