Comment:

 Adding duplicate accounts will not delete old logs (it will use them as
 the directories will be the same).

 Similarly your contacts are likely also intact (in the blist.xml file,
 which you may want to take a moment to back up just in case).
 Additionally, pidgin stores your contacts on the IM server whenever
 possible so even if you lost your blist.xml they would be fetched
 automatically when you next logged in. You would only lose state that was
 saved locally, so some aliases and per-buddy plugin settings and the like.

 That being said you may still have the account information in an
 accounts.xml backup file in the pidgin .purple directory that you may be
 able to salvage more directly. It is worth taking a look.
