Comment:

 libpurple will accept and pin an "invalid" certificate, and no longer
 prompt, except under one condition (an expired certificate) which will not
 be changed substantially (at most, I'd be willing to prompt once per
 connection).

 Why exactly are you being prompted for the certificate?  What does the
 message say?
