#14251: [CRASH] Nyan Cat YouTube link crashes pidgin
-------------------+--------------------------------------------------------
Reporter: Neo139 | Type: defect
Status: new | Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.6.6 | Keywords: crash,nyan
-------------------+--------------------------------------------------------
I know this looks like a joke but it isn't.
Every time I pasted this youtube link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH2-TGUlwu4
in the message textbox, pidgin crashed (it crashed even before pressing
enter)
The strange thing is that this didn't happened with any other link.
So I try to type the link and pidgin crashed just after typing the -
(dash) of the link. But I also tested with other YouTube links that have
dash and it didn't crashed.
I had libnotify plugin enabled (this one is default), so I disabled it.
restart pidgin, and it still crashed (without any plugins)
After reproducing the crash several times I recorded a video so that
people don't think this is some kind of joke:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw_u0Un0cZs
In the video you can see that I have pidgin 2.6.6, no plugins, and that it
crashed just after pasting the link, before pressing enter.
I saw the debug log and it named prefs.xml at the end of the file, so I
renamed it prefs.xml.old and forced pidgin to create a new one and it stop
crashing. So I thought there was something in that file that made pidgin
crash with that link.
Then I copy prefs.xml.old and paste it as prefs.xml and open pidgin and
couldn't reproduce the crash in the exactly same conditions as it used to
crash.
I attach the prefs.xml.old and debug.log
I'm sorry I don't have a Backtrace. I read about the backtrace just after
renaming prefs.xml to prefs.xml.old
It's kind of useless to install the debugging symbols right now because I
can't reproduce it anymore.
