 This problem is related to the problem in ticket #13298.  Using nargles'
 workaround:

 can accept adds from others but then don't see them online. While I can
 never add others originally, if they add me and I accept, I can then go
 and add them as I normally would and then everything works as it should
 (yes, do this in addition to the add buddy screen you get upon accepting

  it was possible to add an MSN buddy who gave the "invalid address"
 message in 2.7.9, but those buddies appear permenantly offline, unless you
 delete and re-add the buddy every time you sign on.

 This problem exists in both 2.7.11 and 2.8.0.
