 connect server settings).

Sorry, I'm confused too (and was too hasty). I have two Google accounts:
one regular (aka GMail) and one Google Apps. Here are the settings that do
 NOT cause the error:

 My Google Apps Account:
Connection Security: [ Require Encryption ]
   [ ] Allow plaintext auth
   Connect Port: [ 5222 ]
   Connect Server: [ talk.google.com ]
   File transfer proxies: [ proxy.eu.jabber.org ]
   BOSH URL: [ ]

 My Regular GMail Account:
Connection Security: [ Use old style SSL ]
   [ ] Allow plaintext auth
   Connect Port: [ 443 ]
   Connect Server: [ talk.google.com ]
   File transfer proxies: [ proxy.eu.jabber.org ]
   BOSH URL: [ ]

I don't know if switching the order would still prevent the error or which
of the two settings would work for both accounts, and I unfortunately
don't have the time to test the different combinations. Hopefully this is
enough info to verify that there is a deficiency in the way Pidgin handles
 the Google cert.
