 I've noticed that using a version up to Pidgin 2.7.5 "fixes" the problem.
 If you disregard any security issue, please try downgrading to this
 version for a "temporary fix" on the problem.

 It may be a "shot in the dark" this guess of mine, but the problem seems
 to be on MSNP16 that the developers included on pidgin 2.7.6 and latter
 (see changelog).

 I have compiled and installed from source later versions, including the
 latest to this date (2.9.0) and on none of them worked emoticons, file
 transfers, image display, etc.

 But when I compile and install from source 2.7.5 which doesn't support
 MSNP16, everything works fine.

 I don't know how close the developers are to figure out the MSNP16 issues,
 but as to this date this ticket has 7 months already, it could be
 effective to consider to downgrade to the previous MSN protocol until this
 issue is solved. Emoticons, file transfers, display images, etc. are far
 more important than multiple logins.
