 I tend to agree with the programmers response.

 In the future, if yahoo changes the server yet again, and this change were
 to be implemented, there would be 100 people claiming pidgin is broken,
 having no idea why it broke, and spending a day tracking down new server
 info, etc., when the fact is they have the wrong server in their config.
 This way, programmer makes a change, and everyone gets the update.

 In all reality, if you don't like it, the source code is there, change it.
 If yahoo makes a change, and you just can't wait, again, the source code
 is there, feel free to change it.
